Abstract

RUIZ RAMIREZ, Víctor Alejandro. Dialogue on Visuality in Painting. Tóp. Sem [online]. 2023, n.50, pp.57-76.  Epub June 23, 2023. ISSN 2594-0619.

Semiotics considers visuality as a form and value of perception. This consideration coincides with the concept of visual perception postulated by phenomenology who recognizes not only the relationship between the visual and the tactile or auditory, but the reversibility between the seer and the visible. This article exposes some contributions that could be made from phenomenology and semiotics to studies on visual culture considering painting in its visuality. I do not try to account for the descriptions that both disciplines have developed about perception and image; my purpose is only to show how they define visual perception from the study of painting to suggest postulates of interest to studies of visual culture.

Keywords : visuality; painting; body; image; visual culture.
