Abstract

VARGAS GONZALEZ, Pablo. The Mexican political chasm: political projects polarization 1988-2018. Espiral (Guadalaj.) [online]. 2021, vol.28, n.80, pp.115-145.  Epub June 11, 2021. ISSN 1665-0565.

The main objective of this work is to analyze and explain the process of conforming two sociopolitical forces around large nation-development projects in Mexico, particularly expressed in presidential elections, which are part of the process of still unfinished democratic consolidation. In Mexico you can use the metaphor -the rift- used in Argentina by the different political groups, to designate a deep separation between supporters of antagonistic projects in the historical, social and political issues.A political break that transcends cultural life and is placed in the media, the centers of thought and political analysis. These are two great forces that divide the country into a dispute over hegemony, which was reproduced in the period 1988-2018.

Keywords : polarization of political projects; national project; elections; political poles; cleavages.
