Abstract

SIERRA, María Teresa. Diálogos y prácticas interculturales: derechos humanos, derechos de las mujeres y políticas de identidad. Desacatos [online]. 2004, n.15-16, pp.126-147. ISSN 2448-5144.

This article discusses the challenges of the policy of recognition and indigenous rights in Mexico. Two central aspects of this debate, which confront cultural differences and the policies of identity, are outlined: human rights and women's rights. It is argued that both rights, belonging to liberal and universalist traditions, when reviewed critically, are central to question the homogenizing and ahistorical narratives of culture and identity. They also offer elements for thinking of counterhegemonic and emancipatory multicultural alternatives.
