Abstract

ALBERTI, Alfonsina; BARDOMAS, Silvia  and  NEIMAN, Guillermo. Work, family and subjectivity. Formation of labor trajectories among agricultural wage earners in the province of Tucumán, Argentina. Pap. poblac [online]. 2022, vol.28, n.111, pp.111-136.  Epub Sep 19, 2022. ISSN 2448-7147.  https://doi.org/10.22185/24487147.2022.111.05.

This article refers to the shaping process of labor trajectories among temporary wage workers in agriculture at the province of Tucumán (Argentina). The province has been going through a strong restructuring since the end of the last century based on the expansion of large companies with lemon plantations oriented for the foreign market. In this context, labor markets become highly unstable, constraining the possibilities for annual full employment in agriculture, with low remunerations and reduced social protection. Labor functions as life course structuring axis, and of the social reproduction process. In turn, both appear necessarily intertwined with other critical dimensions that will intervene in the construction of labor trajectories, such as households’ dynamics, migratory strategies, educational itineraries, emerging subjectivities related to their social condition, and the limitations and true possibilities of their own work paths.

Keywords : Agricultural workers; seasonality; employment experiences; Argentina.
