Abstract

GOMEZ-REDONDO, Susana; PARAMA DIAZ, Anabel; CABALLERO CABALLERO, Isabel  and  COCA, Juan R.. Creation and Development of a Website on Rare Diseases as a Socio-educational Tool in Higher Education. RMIE [online]. 2022, vol.27, n.95, pp.1143-1163.  Epub Jan 30, 2023. ISSN 1405-6666.

This article presents research on future teachers' representations and knowledge of rare diseases. The participants were first-year university students majoring in elementary education at the Soria school of education (Universidad de Valladolid, Spain). The research is supplemented by the creation and implementation (during two courses) of a website on rare diseases; the site was used as a socio-educational tool that would be informative and educational for educators. A meta-didactic interpretive approach addressed students' attitudes and involvement in the activity, based on behavioral categories. The conclusion is that the respondents have very little knowledge of rare diseases and that they evaluate the website positively as an innovative tool. This suggests the existing need for training in the context of higher education and the possibility of implementing measures similar to the proposal.
