Abstract
FUENTES-BALDERRAMA, Jaime and RIVERA-HEREDIA, María Elena. Personal, Contextual, and Academic Factors Associated with Academic Failure in Higher Education: A National Sample from Mexico. RMIE [online]. 2022, vol.27, n.95, pp.1039-1062. Epub Jan 30, 2023. ISSN 1405-6666.
This study identified personal, contextual, and academic factors associated with the academic failure of 3,806 university students enrolled in ten undergraduate programs in twelve Mexican universities. Multilevel logistic modeling (students nested in majors) found that gender, age, current semester, the mother's educational level, long commutes, and emotional or economic difficulties were associated with a greater probability of academic failure. The effects were similar for all majors, but students of veterinary science, chemistry, and engineering were the more likely to fail.
