Abstract

GUTIERREZ-SANTIUSTE, Elba  and  GALLEGO-ARRUFAT, María Jesús. Social presence in a virtual collaborative learning environment: analysis of a oriented inquiry community. RMIE [online]. 2017, vol.22, n.75, pp.1169-1186. ISSN 1405-6666.

This study analizes the social elements in virtual communication in Higher Education and the perception of the students about the interaction. A mixed analysis is conducted through questionnaires and content analysis of communications made by students in chats, forums, and emails. This study is based on the theoretical and methodological model Community of Inquiry. This study provided the contrast between the social communicate elements and the perception of the students. The results suggest that cohesion of the group is the category most communicated. In a percentage far lower is the open and affectivity communication. The students perceive in similar percentage the affective and cohesive communication. The open communication is perceived in minor measure.
