Abstract

ESCOBAR, Bogar. The Lerma-Chapala Basin. The Water of Discord. Gest. polít. pública [online]. 2006, vol.15, n.2, pp.369-391. ISSN 1405-1079.

The Lerma-Chapala basin future looks serious due to the environmental deterioration of the last decades, given the intensification of the economic-urban development processes. On the one hand, demographic growth continues in the area, which implies more need of water. On the other hand, there is a general perception that rain cycles have shown a deficit. This paper is mainly concerned about analyzing the evolution of the Lerma-Chapala basin (natural environment and economic-urban development) and how this process has hit the deterioration of the area and reduced its sustainability.

Keywords : water's problems; public policy; economic and urban development.
