Abstract

DELGADO, María de Jesús  and  ALVAREZ, Inmaculada. Evaluation of Technical Efficiency in Member Countries of the European Union. Gest. polít. pública [online]. 2005, vol.14, n.1, pp.107-128. ISSN 1405-1079.

The aim of this paper is to analyse the behaviour of member countries of the European Union (EU) in a period when this integration process has important advances and when policies have been set out to favour efficiency improvements in these economies. With this in mind, this work focuses in the estimate of technical efficiency degree that European countries have suffered in 1980-97 and the discussion of the results obtained, offering a new perspective in the design of economic policies. This research shows that the advances in the European integration process have allowed to improve efficiency in the use of productive factors, and that there exist other possibilities to increase the growth rate in this countries by this means.

Keywords : public policy; political economy; planning and development.
