Abstract

LOPEZ SANCHEZ, Oliva. Affective Turns: The Centrality of the Sensitive Life to Theorize the Social. A Latin American View. Hist. graf [online]. 2024, n.62, pp.263-301.  Epub Jan 26, 2024. ISSN 1405-0927.  https://doi.org/10.48102/hyg.vi62.497.

In this article I present an overview of the epistemological and political aspects that led to the construction of the affective turn, a perspective that places emotions, feelings and affections at the center of social theorizing. The criticisms of feminist theory and others of the 1960s towards the rationalist paradigms constructed in the post-war period (after 1945) made possible the inclusion of these overlooked dimensions in socio-anthropological and historiographical research. From a strategic path that incorporates the turns of the affective turn, I point out some ontological and epistemological glimpses shared by different approaches. I emphasize the aporias of the attempts to differentiate, in an exclusive way, the affective-emotional life and highlight the heuristic transcendence of its incorporation in research because of the importance of what they organize in the social world (relationships) rather than their definition. The development of the field is presented from a Latin American perspective.

Keywords : affective turn; emotion; affect; feminist epistemology.
