Abstract

AGUIRRE CORDOVA, Juan Francisco. Ethical/legal behavior of the surgeon: utopia?. Cir. gen [online]. 2017, vol.39, n.4, pp.247-250. ISSN 1405-0099.

The surgeon, in his professional activity, faces ethical or legal dilemmas. The lack of adherence to ethical precepts causes internal uneasiness and feelings of guilt in the practitioner, while non-compliance with the norms applied to medical practice exposes him to be held accountable before criminal, civil or administrative instances. In the medical care that he provides to his patients, the surgeon is obliged to conduct himself with ethical-normative congruence, extending this conduct to family members, co-workers, doctors in training and him/herself; to do so, he or she must know the ethical and legal foundations that govern this professional activity.

Keywords : Ethics; normativity; behavior; general surgeon.
