Abstract

It was investigated the ion exchange of Pb(II) from aqueous solution on clinoptilolite without modifying and modified by cation exchange with NaCl and NH4Cl solutions. The exchange capacity of the modified zeolite is dependent on the ion used in the modification as well as the time of the modification procedure. The modification of the zeolite increased its exchange capacity since the exchangeable ions Mg, Ca and K were displaced by the Na and NH4 ions, which are more accessible for exchanging Pb(II). It was observed that the exchange capacity of the modified zeolite rised increasing the quantity of the exchangeable ions displaced during the modification.
