The most important aspects related to the formation, problems and control of sediments and sludge in catalytic hydrocracking units are reviewed in this work. The importance of the study of sediments is due to its relationship with unstability of hydrocarbons and with the problems they cause such as catalyst deactivation and deposition and accumulation in pipes, heat exchangers and bottom of reactors and fractionation columns. Some recommendations are proposed in order to improve sediments determination by using ASTM methods.
