SCHIFTER ACEVES, Liliana; ACEVES PASTRANA, Patricia Elena  and  MORALES COSME, Alba Dolores. Minería e inquisición en la Nueva España del siglo XVIII; el caso Morel. Rev. Soc. Quím. Méx [online]. 2002, vol.46, n.2, pp.189-192. ISSN 0583-7693.

In the present work it is intended to highlight the intense relationship between chemistry and minnig that took course during the XVIII century in New Spain as related to the frenchman Esteban Morel. This fellow was extremely important in the scientific platform of the New Spain because of his role as the first physician who practiced the inoculation of smallpox in the spanish colonies. Furthermore, it is suggested that his misterious suicide while imprisoned in the Inquisition was a consequence of his mininng activities in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico.

Keywords : Minning; inquisition; Esteban Morel; New Spain.
