The text addresses the concept of individualization in the works of Emile Durkheim, George Simmel and Norbert Elias and reflects on the legacy and new developments in the use of this concept in contemporary thinkers as Zygmunt Bauman and Ulrich Beck. Finally, the article includes an interpretation of the Mexican reality and emphasizes the importance of the conceptual work in communication field for the social sciences.
