This article analyses the main transformations and social consequences felt in Chile with the implementation of the neoliberal model during the military dictatorship. It also shows that faced with the new political and economical context, thousands of men and women took a leading part in a cycle of protests and processes of democratization and were finally left out of the political pact that defined the transition to democracy and the successive "Concertación" governments.
