Abstract

This article is part of a broader research about social policy process in Ecuador. The analysis is developed from the perspective of political economy using the 3I analytical framework. The aim of the research is to contribute to a better understanding of the process through which the ideas, institutions and interests shape the Ecuadorian policies of buen vivir (good living). A case study is presented to illustrate the analysis about the decision, since 2009, to eradicate children chronic undernutrition. The findings lend to conclude that the underlying political value, in this case, is a politics of effectivism, the results of this politics are expressed in the implementation failures and in the limited results of the State intervention.
