Abstract

AGUERO AGUILA, Javier. An Ethics of the Contingent: Judith Butler and the Principle of (Non)Violence. Tópicos (México) [online]. 2023, n.65, pp.113-131.  Epub June 09, 2023. ISSN 0188-6649.  https://doi.org/10.21555/top.v650.2129.

This article is built around a fundamental issue: the way in which a reflection on the ethical and the political could be articulated if we consider violence as a central vector of the ethical-political itself. In other words, I show how violence can be seen as the main phenomenon within social life, producing a certain ethos in contemporary societies. For this purpose, I use the works of the Jewish-American philosopher Judith Butler and the ethical-political aspects that emerge from her work.

Keywords : Judith Butler; ethics; violence; non-violence; politics.
