Abstract
GOMEZ ROJAS, Juan Carlos. The space's cultural experiencie: Lived space and abstract space. The ricoeurean perspective. Invest. Geog [online]. 2001, n.44, pp.119-125. ISSN 2448-7279.
This essay focuses on the issue of spaceness, not only regarding the ways to measure it but also with respect to its mythical and cultural perception. The distinction between geographic and cosmic space allows to think about the importance of the human experience. Talking about the "here" and "there" refers to locate, differentiate, set scales to the geographic space, develop geographic relationships where the scientific approach becomes inseparable from the individual and social experiences. The human experience about the lived space is located in the dichotomy between cosmic and geographic space, between the "here" and "there", which represents the link between geographic phenomena and the way they are reported geographically. It is human experience which is a feature of Geography as one of the main symbolic structures of the space s cultural experience. Regarding the history of the geographic space, Ricoeur mentions expectation horizons and experience spaces. The latter results from past events to the current arrangement of the regional space The expectation horizon can be understood as the deployment of projects and hopes that facilitate the future. It is here where we can foresee the development of a region, where the "laws" of Geography are found.
