This paper aims at strengthing the methodological background for erosion studies in Mexico. Morphogenetic mapping is presented as a tool for erosion inventories. Simple statistic techniques are used to characterize the morphogenetic units and to provide the basis for the design of a new, pragmatic, geomorphic legend, suitable for erosion inventories.
