Abstract

The objective of this study was to know and analyze the importance of community organization in practices of fire use and fire attention as part of the cultural management of fire in the Sierra de Santa Martha, Veracruz. Interviews, a questionnaire and participant observation were conducted. The results indicated that the inhabitants have established practices and processes congruent with their culture to protect the elements of their territory. The article concludes that the cultural management of fire is a tool that needs to be legitimized due to its effectiveness and the value of its practices, which demonstrate social organization, knowledge, and collective experience.
