Abstract

ANSOLABEHERE, Karina. Legalists, Moderate Legalists and Moderate Guarantists: Legal Ideology of Teachers, Judges, Lawyers, Attorney Generals and Representatives. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2008, vol.70, n.2, pp.331-359. ISSN 2594-0651.

The study carries out a descriptive analysis of the ideas (specific kinds of knowledge) that teachers, judges, attorney generals, lawyers and representatives, hold on Law and rights with the purpose of advancing in the understanding of these actors' practices, played in the socialization of Law. By means of in-depth interviews made to officials of these groups, we could probe into their tenets about Law, the rule of Law and human rights, among others subjects. The working hypothesis: ideas that characterize these groups in Mexico render a legalist vision of the problem of Law and rights. Besides, in the prevalent frames of ideas, the Law and the rights' content are subordinated to actual laws. We observe that the studied groups' various kinds of knowledge set them between a legalist model and a guarantist one.

Keywords : legal culture; Sociology of Law; court system; the judiciary; law ideology.
