Abstract

CONTRERAS, Óscar F.; CARRILLO, Jorge; GARCIA, Humberto  and  OLEA M., Jaime. Desempeño laboral de las maquiladoras: Una evaluación de la seguridad en el trabajo. Frontera norte [online]. 2006, vol.18, n.35, pp.55-86. ISSN 2594-0260.

Within the context of the debate about the impacts of maquiladora plants established in Mexico, this essay shows empirical evidence about ITS labour performance and specifically on the subject of occupational safety and health. The plot upholds that maquiladora plants have a better performance than the non - maquiladora companies since they present higher fulfilling levels of norms and regulations so as lower accidents rates. Among maquiladora companies, the ones that belong to transnational corporations reveal a better performance.

Keywords : maquiladoras; labor's safety and health; labor standards; transnational corporations; Northern Mexico.
