Abstract

ESTRADA SAAVEDRA, Marco. System of Protest: Politics, the Media, and #YoSoy 132. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2014, vol.29, n.82, pp.83-123. ISSN 2007-8358.

In this article, I deal with the process of creating #YoSoy 132 as a system of protest. Based on field work among members of this movement in different institutions of higher learning in Mexico City's Federal District, after describing the context in which the movement emerged, I proceed to describe its organization, the process of individual affiliation, its members, and informational habits. I also cover its demands, internal tensions and conflicts, form of observation, and identity. Lastly, I conclude the article with a series of reflections about the significance of "132" for democracy.

Keywords : social movements; social systems; communications media; democracy.
