Abstract

LEY GARCIA, Judith; ORTEGA VILLA, Luz María  and  DENEGRI DE DIOS, Fabiola Maribel. Differences in the perception of multiple hazards among inhabitants of a border city in Mexico. Estud. demogr. urbanos [online]. 2019, vol.34, n.1, pp.71-99. ISSN 2448-6515.  https://doi.org/10.24201/edu.v34i1.1737.

This document explores the differences in risk perception shown by the inhabitants of the city of Mexicali based on the classification of information, obtained through a survey, which involves variables related to the type of danger, the social characteristics of the subjects, the way knowledge is acquired and the preventive actions they undertake. Among the results, four perceptual groups were obtained, two extremes (amplifiers and attenuators) and two intermediates (focused on selective perception), whose particular characteristics warrant consideration in the area of disaster prevention.

Keywords : risk perception; amplification; attenuation; multiple dangers.
