Abstract

GUTIERREZ, Talía Violeta. State, Agriculture and Home: Public Policies toward Rural Women, Buenos Aires (Argentina), 1958-1991. Secuencia [online]. 2014, n.88, pp.217-248. ISSN 2395-8464.

The purpose of the paper is to use a historical perspective to analyze policies targeting rural women in the Pampas region of Argentina, in the territory of the province of Buenos Aires, between the late 1950s and early 1990s, from the development project the rise of neoliberalism. The initiatives designed to raise families' standard of living, but above all, to encourage them to remain in the countryside, focused on women and girls through Rural Extensionism from new departments such as the Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria and the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs. The characteristics and objectives of the "Rural Home" programs or the "Farm Household Centers", changes and continuities with previous initiatives are some of the aspects analyzed in a context of growing urbanization and productive and social changes in the province of Buenos Aires.
