An ambitious project to analyze and reconstruct virtually the Substructure II C of Calakmul, Campeche, Mexico, is currently underway. The substructure sculptural program, with at least two friezes and an equal number of masks and facades, is of particular interest since it could give us a key to interpret and understand the place. This brief study focuses on identifying the characters represented in these images as a first step in understanding the scenes and the meaning they bring to the built environment.
