Abstract

CUEVAS SAGARDI, Maritza; HERNANDEZ OLVERA, Juan Joel  and  PLATAS RUIZ, Rafael. Consideraciones en torno a la dinámica cultural del sitio costero Valle de las Garzas, Manzanillo, estado de Colima, durante el 450 al 650 d.C.. Trace (Méx. DF) [online]. 2013, n.64, pp.25-43. ISSN 2007-2392.

In recent years, the state of Colima has faced a number of infrastructural changes due to exponential population growth and economic development. This became a consequent risk for specific cultural and archaeological heritage. Meanwhile, more consistent archaeological interventions by various researchers from the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH) allow the protection and the historical reconstruction of the region. This article describes the results of an archaeological exploration in 2012, which took place in the archaeological site Valle de las Garzas, located in the central part of the urban area, northeast of the county seat of Manzanillo. Thank to this archaeological rescue project 86 burials, human and also faunal remains divided into two specific areas were recovered. The registered material shows a relationship with the remnants reported in Playa del Tesoro, another important settlement on the coast of Colima, which reached its peak between 200 and 650 AD. Through these findings we will show some aspects of the cultural dynamics of human groups that settled in the coast of Colima during the pre-Hispanic era, and specifically of the human group that inhabited the Valle de las Garzas between 450 to 650 AD.
