This paper develops a comparative study of the Castilian exempla collection Libro de los gatos (1350-1400) and its direct source, the Fabulae (after 1225) of the clerk of Kent, Odo of Cheriton. It analyzes the omissions and the changes of the translator and re-writer in order to thoroughly comprehend the functions of the exempla in the Castilian society of the late 14^th and early 15^th Centuries.
