Abstract

RUIZ LARRAGUIVEL, Estela  and  ALDANA ALONSO, Ruth. Objective and subjective aspects of the work trajectories of engineers graduated from a technological university in Mexico. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2022, vol.44, n.176, pp.83-101.  Epub Apr 17, 2023. ISSN 0185-2698.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iisue.24486167e.2022.176.60566.

This paper discusses the results obtained in an exploratory research, carried out in the 2017-2018 period, on the work trajectories of University Senior Technicians (TSU by its acronym in Spanish) engineers graduated from the Technological University of the South of Sonora (Mexico). We used a qualitative methodology and applied in-depth interviews to a sample of 33 engineering graduates in order to identify the subjective and objective aspects of their occupational itineraries in the labor market of Ciudad Obregón, Sonora. We made a distinction between graduate engineers with TSU work experience and those who entered employment for the first time without having previously worked as technicians. The results highlight the effect of the practical training provided by the TSU on the rapid insertion into the first job experienced by both TSU graduates and engineers, although there do not seem to be many differences in the jobs they hold.

Keywords : technological higher education; higher education and work; training of technicians and engineer; labor trajectories; employment and overeducation.
