Abstract
PEREZ SANCHEZ, Rolando and TORRES FERNANDEZ, David. El contexto educativo como predictor de habilidades digitales y comportamientos riesgosos en Internet. The present study seeks to determine the effect of teaching technological mediation, friendships mediation, educational use of the Internet and cell phone usage rules in educational institutions on digital skills and risk behaviors. In order to do this, we surveyed 530 Costa Rican teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17-an average age of 14.84 years old (SD = 1.44)-from which 52.6 percent were women. Furthermore, we applied a structural equation model as well as mediation and moderation analysis. The results show that a greater use of the Internet at school, greater active peer mediation, and higher socioeconomic status tend to result in higher digital skills; while a greater use of the Internet is associated with greater risk behaviors; also, a more active peer mediation tends to lower said risks.
