Abstract

ESCAMEZ SANCHEZ, Juan; PERIS CANCIO, José Alfredo  and  ESCAMEZ MARSILLA, Juan I.. Educación of university students and management of sustainability. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2017, vol.39, n.156, pp.174-190. ISSN 0185-2698.

This theoretical paper was prepared in the Spanish context from the perspective of practical philosophies. It argues, as a general objective, that the current purpose of education includes preparing students to manage the challenges of sustainable development as an alternative to the prevailing conception of development as growth in gross domestic product (GDP). The method employed is the philosophical hermeneutics of documents provided by international organizations, civil society associations and authors who defend universal humanist values. The conclusions are that universities must train their students in the complexity of the meaning of a sustainable world, in the values of sustainability, and in the attitudes that ensure the permanence and management of such values in societies.

Keywords : goal of education; sustainability; management of sustainability; educationfor sustainability; economic models.
