Abstract

MARTOS GARCIA, Aitana  and  MARTOS GARCIA, Alberto. Heuristic analogies of reading and their implications for teacher training. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2016, vol.38, n.154, pp.174-190. ISSN 0185-2698.

In this text we examine analogies related to reading from the central role of beliefs, opinions, and representations concerning education, and in particular the didactics of certain subjects in teacher training. Through different symbols and constructs we review the underlying representations; assess their heuristic use, as well as their derivations and implications; and propose criteria and possible approaches for teaching praxis. In particular, we examine the representations of reading as gem and as metabolism, and those of the (post)modern reader as cyborg, underscoring the need to foster inclusive reading and facilitate "omnivorous" readers. Finally, we use the metaphor of the "flight of the vampire," as an image of the potential for meaning that each act of reading instills in each reader, in the same way as "burning books" is a plastic symbol of compulsive attitudes.

Keywords : Reading; Analogies; Liquid modernity; Heuristics; Inclusion; Cultural omnivorism; Tuning.
