Abstract

GUZMAN CACERES, Maricela  and  GARCIA GARDUNO, José María. Determinants that affect teaching the methodology of social sciences: A state of the art. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2016, vol.38, n.153, pp.51-64. ISSN 0185-2698.

The objective of this article was to produce a review of the knowledge regarding determinants that affect teaching and learning of social science methodology in higher education. The study methodology was conducted in two stages: a heuristic stage during which studies carried out in Latin America and the United States were identified and selected; and a hermeneutic stage to analyze and interpret the selected texts. This review concludes that although subject matter to teach research methodology is essential for developing student investigatory skills, students frequently are unable to develop these skills due to epistemological, curricular and/or didactic determinants, as well as due to student and teacher beliefs and attitudes.

Keywords : Research methodology; Curriculum; Special didactics; Social sciences; Student attitudes.
