This paper analyzes for the first time the 39 Pharmacy career theses written by graduates of the National School of Medicine (NSM) between 1897 and 1919. The reviewed documents include topics mainly related to the chemical analysis of various types of substrata, medicinal plants, bacteriological applications to pharmaceutical processes, particularities of some pharmaceutical forms and topics such as pharmaceutical legislation, history and practice. The examined texts are valuable primary sources for identifying the development of this field of study concerning the professional profile and work performed by Mexican pharmacists of the NSM in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The analysis of these texts helps us to understand the emerging practices and knowledge that led to the transformation of galenic pharmacy experts into chemists oriented to the analysis of medicines and other products.
