Abstract

RODRIGUEZ-SALA, María Luisa. About a forgotten document by Carlos de Sigüenza and Góngora named "The Description of the Bay of Santa María de Galve" (1693); a contribution to the project of population of the Northern Mexican Gulf. Estud. hist. novohisp [online]. 2015, n.53, pp.52-62. ISSN 2448-6922.  https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ehn.2015.08.002.

Maritime voyage of Andrés de Pez to the Northern costs of the "Seno Mexicano" (Gulf of Mexico), July-September, 1667, was an exit to the Spanish and New Spanish authorities unrest regarded a French invasion to those territories. But, at the same time, arose new projects: missional and exploratory-geographic-defensive. At this moment we find the participation of one of the most prestigious new-spanish scientist, Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora. He took place at the voyage and elaborates his "Descripción de la Bahía de Santa María de Galve" (Panzacola Bay). We have recovered the original document and studied it in the Spanish protectionists unrest in regard to its East-northern possessions.
