Abstract
CASTILLO RAMIREZ, Guillermo. Las representaciones de los grupos indígenas y el concepto de nación en Forjando Patria de Manuel Gamio. Cuicuilco [online]. 2013, vol.20, n.56, pp.11-34. ISSN 0185-1659.
From an historical-anthropological viewpoint, this text analyzes the representations of indigenous groups and the concept of nation, outlined by Manual Gamio in Forjando Patria (1916), in the context of the days just before the suspension of hostilities of the Mexican Revolution and the background immediately preceding the 1917 Constitution. From this standpoint, the article describes the social and epistemological structure involved in Gamio's development of and his intentions in Forjando Patria. Then, the author conducts an inquiry into the characteristics, which he considers delineate an integrated and defined concept of nationality in the early 20th century. Finally, the article ends by describing Gamio's intellectual geneology in Forjando Patria, on the basis of which he formulated the relations among Indian groups, the construct of the nation and the idea of cultural differences.
