Abstract

AMADOR MARRERO, Pablo F.. From Oaxaca to the Canaries: Devotions and 'Betrayals'. An. Inst. Investig. Estét [online]. 2012, vol.34, n.101, pp.39-79. ISSN 0185-1276.

Behind every work of art there is a human history, and that is what this article sets out to explore. Drawing on documentation located in Oaxaca and the Canaries it brings to light information regarding a lost sculpture and the artistic and economic legacy of the person who is assumed to have been its devote donor. These results call for certain revisions of existing knowledge while providing new data for the exploration of the complicated social relations and connections between the art of Oaxaca and the islands.

Keywords : Oaxaca; Canary islands; sculpture; donation; charitable bequests.
