Abstract

BAEZ MACIAS, Eduardo. Otto Dix: serie gráfica sobre la guerra. An. Inst. Investig. Estét [online]. 2000, vol.22, n.76, pp.237-251. ISSN 0185-1276.

Eduardo Báez discusses the work of artist Otto Dix, who experienced the horrors of life in the trenches during the First World War. Taking advantage of the exhibition staged at the Ex Archbishopric (Mexico City, 1999), the catalogue produced by Eugen Keuerleber and extensive readings on topics associated with the war and militias, the author highlights the parallels between Remarque and Dix. Just as the war ballads of Bertold Brecht were illustrated by another ex combatant, George Broz, so the novels of Erich M. Remarque could be illustrated by Otto Dix. The impressive harshness of this graphic series is analyzed with true historical and literary passion by a spectator offering readers an enormous contextual richness.
