Abstract

ESPEJEL ESPINOZA, Alberto  and  NAVARRETE VELA, Juan Pablo. Political control within political parties in Mexico in the 21st century, based on their statutes. Foro int [online]. 2023, vol.63, n.2, pp.251-284.  Epub June 09, 2023. ISSN 0185-013X.  https://doi.org/10.24201/fi.v63i2.2960.

This article discusses intra-party political control. First, it constructs a political control index (PCI) to assess the ability of party members to hold their leaders accountable. The PCI is then used to analyze party statutes in Mexico. Among the main findings is that both in the parties that obtain the most votes and positions (Movimiento Regeneración Nacional [Morena], Partido Acción Nacional [PAN], and Partido Revolucionario Institucional [PRI]) and in the minority parties (Partido de la Revolución Democrática [PDR], Partido del Trabajo [PT], Partido Verde Ecologista de México [PVEM] and Movimiento Ciudadano [MC]) there are low levels of political control.

Keywords : internal democracy; political control; political parties; statutes; militancy.
