VICUNA-POZO, María Fernanda et al. Male external genital trauma from gunshot pellets. Rev. mex. pediatr. [online]. 2022, vol.89, n.3, pp.117-120.  Epub May 26, 2023. ISSN 0035-0052.  https://doi.org/10.35366/109309.

Introduction:

genital trauma by firearm is a rare event.

Case presentation:

a 14-year-old male patient was seen in the emergency department due to moderate bleeding secondary to injuries to the scrotum and penis, caused by gunshot trauma. In the evaluation, the complete loss of the right testicle was observed, as well as damage to the left testicle in more than 70%. In addition, the scrotal and penile skin were partially lost. Treatment was surgical immediately on admission to the hospital, and the patient had a satisfactory postoperative evolution.

Conclusions:

management of gunshot genital trauma is a urological emergency. Assessment of the severity of the lesions is required, to grant the appropriate surgical treatment.
