The optimization of postoperative pain management and its approach in the different scenarios faced by anesthesiologists in their daily practice represent a great challenge. At present, we have guidelines and recommendations issued by different groups in which, based on scientific evidence, this problem is addressed.

In Mexico, a group of enthusiastic anesthesiologists from different institutions, led by Dr. Ana Lilia Garduño López in strategic association with Dr. Ruth Zaslansky and Dr. Winfried Meissner from the University of Jena in Germany, took on the task of organizing the Mexican Network for the Optimization of Perioperative Pain Management. This great collective effort resulted in a strategy and a series of recommendations that we put to your consideration in this issue of the Revista Mexicana de Anestesiología.

The text was divided, according to its contents, into four sections preceded by the editorial message and the introduction. In Section I the general recommendations are broken down, to continue consecutively with those aimed at a specific population, analgesia by specific procedure and to conclude with different analgesic strategies.

This issue of the Revista Mexicana de Anestesiología is very special, as it is the first in the entire history of our disclosure body where the electronic version has links that will lead the reader to algorithms and interactive videos. This makes our magazine one of the first in our country to make these educational tools available to those interested, which places it at the forefront of scientific dissemination.

It is important to inform you that this issue of the Revista Mexicana de Anestesiología was endorsed by the National Academy of Medicine of Mexico and the Mexican Academy of Surgery for its content, proposal, innovation and design.

This is how the Mexican College of Anaesthesiology and its Editorial Committee work to provide interested parties with a tool in which they can publicize the results of their research, a clear example is this issue.
