GARCIA CASILLAS, Stephanie  y  GONZALEZ GARCIA, Juan. Evolution of Relations Between Mexico, the US and China in the Context of Nearshoring: The Case of the Automotive Industry. Portes. rev. mex. estud. cuen. pac [online]. 2025, vol.3, n.5, pp.27-57.  Epub 16-Feb-2026. ISSN 2992-7870.  https://doi.org/10.53897/revportes.2025.05.02.

This article analyzes the impact of nearshoring in Mexico, derived from the trade conflict between China and the United States (US) and the covid-19 crisis. These events have led many companies to relocate their operations from China to countries closer to the US market. Through a statistical analysis, the impact on the structure of investment and trade in Mexico with the US and China is described both sectorally and regionally with nearshoring, especially in the manufacturing industry, with emphasis on the automotive sector. It is concluded that nearshoring is redirecting FDI in Mexico, led by the automotive sector, towards the central and gulf regions, the north, and to a lesser extent in the western and Bajío regions, although the impact varies by region.
