Abstract
JIMENEZ-CORNEJO, Astrid et al. The stage of chronic venous insufficiency as a predictor of quality-of-life deterioration in patients treated at a referral hospital. Rev. mex. angiol. [online]. 2025, vol.53, n.2, pp.58-64. Epub Aug 29, 2025. ISSN 2696-130X. https://doi.org/10.24875/rma.25000020.
Background:
Chronic venous disease (CVD) is diagnosed in up to 90% of the population and ranks among the 20 most common health conditions in Mexico.
Objective:
To evaluate the quality of life in this group of patients.
Methods:
The CIVIQ-14 questionnaire was administered to outpatients attending the angiology service of a referral hospital, from September 2024 to January 2025. Data were analyzed using IBM-SPSS, evaluating demographic variables, scores by affected domain, and their relationship with the CEAP classification.
Results:
A total of 86 patients with varying CEAP stages of CVD were included; 29.6% were men and 70.9% were women. CEAP stage 2 was the most prevalent (36%). Quality of life showed varying degrees of impairment: patients with CEAP 5 reported less compromise, while those with CEAP 6 showed severe or very severe deterioration.
Conclusion:
CVD directly impacts quality of life. A proportional relationship was observed between the CEAP stage and quality of life deterioration, especially in the psychosocial domain, highlighting the need for a multidisciplinary approach.
