Abstract

PADILLA-HERNANDEZ, Leopoldo E. et al. Cardiovascular risk factors and their relationship with the progression of chronic venous disease. Rev. mex. angiol. [online]. 2024, vol.52, n.2, pp.59-64.  Epub Oct 25, 2024. ISSN 2696-130X.  https://doi.org/10.24875/rma.24000010.

Background:

The progression of chronic venous disease (CVD) is usually linked to risk factors that are the subject of research even without a clear association.

Objective:

To identify whether cardiovascular risk factors (CRF) impact the progression of CVD.

Method:

Retrospective observational analysis of clinical and epidemiological data of 314 patients treated by the Angiology and Vascular Surgery Service of the Central Hospital of the State of Chihuahua from January 2021 to May 2023.

Results:

The most affected age group by CVD was 52 to 61 years (27.1%), 68.2% of patients were women, 53.2% were identified in the stage of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), in a ratio of 28.7% men to 71.3%. women. The most frequent presentation was C3 (30.6%). In the CRF risk analysis, the absence of dyslipidemia and smoking represented a reduction in the probability of progression from CVD to CVI by 35 and 34% respectively.

Conclusion:

This review proposes that some cardiovascular risk factors might impact the progression of CVD to CVI.
