This article explores socioeconomic convergence and divergence in the Sierra de Zongolica, Veracruz, Mexico, a predominantly indigenous region with persistent economic challenges. Through a qualitative approach, it analyzes how public policies, and local economic practices influence socioeconomic dynamics, identifying key factors that contribute to disparities between communities. The results show that although the policies applied aim to promote development, outcomes have been mixed, with some areas showing improvements in infrastructure and access to services, while others face significant barriers to economic and social development. The research highlights the need for effective policies that take into account the cultural and economic particularities of the region in order to promote equitable and sustainable development. The implications of the study suggest that better integration of traditional economic practices and community participation in policy-making could significantly improve the quality of life in the Altas Montañas.
