Abstract

SANCHEZ LUNA, Paula  and  ISLAS RUIZ, Alan. Ecofeminism and development. The case of the cooperative Camaleonas in Alfajayucan, Hidalgo. Carta econ. reg. [online]. 2024, vol.36, n.133, pp.73-88.  Epub May 15, 2024. ISSN 2683-2852.  https://doi.org/10.32870/cer.v0i133.7884.

The objective of this article is to discuss ecofeminism and development, based on the case study of an indigenous women’s cooperative, the Camaleonas, located in Los Angeles, in the municipality of Alfajayucan in the state of Hidalgo. The cooperative is based on the cultivation and sale of cacti and succulents. The analysis applied here is qualitative by means of semi-structured interviews with members of the cooperative, making it possible to reflect on how the women in the group have contributed to the local development of the community, as well as on the organizational challenges that transcend and constitute their own process of development. The Camaleonas have been shaping, on the basis of their own world view, an alternative form of subsistence in the region at the local level, taking advantage of the potential of their territory, and establishing links between inhabitants, as well as with the institutions.

Keywords : ecofeminism; local development; indigenous women; productive projects; Valle del Mezquital.
