SIGNORINI, Virginia. From liminality to de-bordering. Theoretical perspectives on the link between asylum and crisis. Carta econ. reg. [online]. 2023, vol.36, n.132, pp.47-64.  Epub 01-Out-2024. ISSN 2683-2852.  https://doi.org/10.32870/cer.v0i132.7879.

This article proposes to explore the link between the dimensions of the concept of migratory crisis and the right to asylum through the theoretical lens of concepts such as institutional and social fragmentation, the liminality experienced by migrants, and de-bordering understood as the result of strategies of agency. The analysis of border interstices will show us that the «crisis device» has promoted and justified emergency solutions, weakening the entrenchment of a «culture of asylum» (Signorini, 2021a). At the same time, the stories of migration and of crisis’ management tell us that these dynamics of power and control are not passively endured; refugees and civil society activate practices of de-bordering that allow them to overcome invisibility and immobility (Pinelli, 2014), creating spaces of resistance and creative production.

Palavras-chave : borders; migratory crisis; refugee; fragmentation; liminality; de-bordering.
