ALDECOA-LEON, Marisela; ENRIQUEZ ACOSTA, Jesús Ángel y LOPEZ CABALLERO, José Humberto. Links of the Ecoturism Value Chain in San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico. Vértice univ. [online]. 2025, vol.27, n.96, e402. Epub 25-Feb-2025. ISSN 2683-2623. https://doi.org/10.36792/rvu.v27i96.402.
This study focuses on ecotourism and its potential to promote sustainable regional development (SRD) in a tourism-dependent area, specifically San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico (SCSM). The main objective is to characterize ecotourism activities in SCSM through the lens of value chains, analyzing the links that comprise the Ecotourism Value Chain (EVC). The research employs a mixed methodology, including participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and the collection of 359 questionnaires. The results reveal that the locality has strong links in ecotourism activities, restaurant services, and hospitality. However, significant deficiencies were identified in terms of marketing and both public and private transportation. Additionally, a notable disconnection was observed between ecotourism businesses and other components of the EVC, hindering effective integration.
