MONTES DE OCA NAVAS, Elvia. What did the newspapers published in the Toluca region say about socialist education?. Debates hist. [online]. 2025, vol.13, n.2, pp.133-158. Epub 08-Sep-2025. ISSN 2594-2956. https://doi.org/10.54167/debates-por-la-historia.v13i2.1910.
This research presents a regional study of the content of newspapers published in Toluca, the capital of the State of Mexico, and what they reported regarding the educational reform of 1934-1940, which established socialist education in Mexico. The study seeks to strengthen knowledge of both national and local history. To carry out this work, newspapers published in the city of Toluca were analyzed, and to a lesser extent, compared with those appearing in the national press. The newspapers were located in Toluca and three neighboring municipalities, through municipal archives and the state newspaper library. These materials describe the events that took place during this educational reform, highlighting its main problems, beginning with its ambiguous definition, aims, methods, and principles, as well as everything that such a reform involves. The main purpose is to contribute to regional history, drawing on the press and socialist education, to enhance knowledge of this historical stage of education in Mexico, which remains crucial for understanding this nationally significant issue.
